With some of the highest economic growth and lowest unemployment in the nation, Nashville’s leaders should be focusing on how to manage the economic activity they have rather than throwing $100 million at Amazon to locate a new facility there. In the Tennessean, CEA President John Mozena raised the question of whose interests were truly at stake when the deal was cut behind closed doors.

Why would city and state officials, who are already trying to figure out how to get Nashville out of the budgetary hole it’s in, dig that hole even deeper on behalf of one of the world’s largest companies? If Nashville essentially has all the growth it could handle regardless of this deal, then whose interests were those politicians and bureaucrats representing when they were negotiating in secret with Amazon?
